We are OK. (Haiti 7.0 Earthquake Disaster)
As you probably already know, we’re on our 13th day of our 51-day
vacation in the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with its
neighbor country of Haiti, where a 7.0 earthquake hit just a few
hours ago.
Thanks to all of you who have emailed and/or called to find out
how we were.
At the moment of the earthquake Matt was in his bedroom and
Catherine was at the store, where bottles and other products fell
on the floor.
We felt the earthquake at a 4.0 scale here in DR.
However, the real damage was registered in the neighbor country,
where even the United Nations building has collapsed.
Right after the earthquake, a Tsunami warning rose for this
island, Cuba, and the Bahamas, and indeed a small tsunami was
reported in Haitian waters, but no more is expected.
This is a true catastrophe and we’re grieved by the loss.
Again, thanks to all who were concerned about our status.
– Matt & Catherine Willis
